Sony Vaio | F13UFX - Titanium Grey

I purchased this 16.4 inch laptop a few weeks ago for personal home use. Here are the pros and cons in my opinion.

PROS:
1. Large 16.4 inch widescreen (Great for video conferencing, gaming and watching movies)
2. 1600 x 800 pixels (Great for watching HD movies)
3. Very sensitve built-in mic (Great for video conferencing as it can pick up sound from all corners of the room)
4. Good level of sound loudness (Louder than your average laptop so it's great for watching movies)
5. Good sound quality.
6. Impressive Back lit keyboard (Looks great in the dark)
7. Comfortable spacious keyboard with separate number keypad.
8. Good quality Motion eye camera (Good for video conferencing)
9. Great hand gesture feature of vaio media gallery.
10. No heating problems which are commonly seen with other i7 laptops.
11. No annoying fan speed noise.

CONS:
1. Thick laptop.
2. Battery time is 2-2.5hrs (A compromise for a 16.4 inch laptop)
3. Back lit keyboard only works in the dark.

In summary, this is a great desktop replacement laptop for both home and office use, but certainly not ideal for travel purposes.

Sony vaio is always known for elegant designs and aesthetics, and vaio f13UFX is not an exception. But this machine is not good only in design department it also has lot of features. Those who are looking for a power packed machine this could be a right choice for them. My priority was elegance and power and this machine provides both.

Processor
This laptop comes with Intel core i7 740qm which works on 1.73GHz. it has 6MB cache. 4 cores can process 8 threads and can reach up to 2.93GHz. it also has hyper threading and turbo boost. One can be really sure that this processor is not going to face problem while facing massive loads.

Graphics
This machine comes with NVidia GeForce 310. This card is not a power house but does some decent work. You can play modern games thou not on very high details. It is an entry level card with 512MB video memory. One can also work with graphic programs like Photoshop, Dreamweaver and others without a worry. The card only supports direct x 10. You can also decode HD videos with it.

Ram/Hard drive/Optical
Sony vaio f13UFX comes with 4GB (DDR 3) ram in two slots (2GB+2GB). It supports up to 8 GB of ram. One can upgrade according to the need. The machine is equipped with 500 GB HDD which is sufficient for most of the needs thou it’s not enough to be used as a backup. Optical drive is DVD writer but blu ray variant is also available.

Display
This model comes with 16.4 inches lcd with CCFL backlit display. CCFL backlit display consumes more power than the LED backlit. Led would be nicer but this lcd also does things nicely. Display is nice and crisp. One can enjoy high def contents, editing. Max resolution of the display is 1600*900.

Audio
It’s equipped with Intel High Definition Audio with Dolby Home Theater Technology for rich media experience. Headphone jack can also be used as an optical out and you can plug it into av receivers for better audio experience.

Communication
F13UFX supports Gigabit Ethernet LAN and 802.11b/g/n WLAN. Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR is also supported.
Ports include 2 USB 3 for faster data transfer; it also has one eSata/ USB combo port. Laptop has one express card slot to support external hardware. It also has a VGA port and HDMI. Microphone input is also there to connect external mic. It also support MS media slot and SD media slot.

Extras
It comes with backlit keyboard which is a really cool feature and gives user quite an ease while working in not well lit environments. It comes with a num pad and motion eye web cam, the quality of cam and microphone is very good, using Skype and other softwares which require cam and mic are really fun to use.

Weight and Battery
Why weight and battery together? These are two departments where this machine really falls short. It is 6.4lbs which is really not easy to carry but one can see 16.4 inches display and the features it gives cannot be fitted in lighter machines or at least not in this budget.
Standard battery provided with the machine is a shame; F13UFX seriously suffers from poor batter life. If one’s main concern is battery and handling then vaio F13UFX is not your choice. But if you want to enjoy the goodness in it, getting an extended battery would be a good move.

Package contains the Sony VAIO VPC-F13UFX laptop, standard capacity rechargeable battery, AC adapter, power cord, and printed user manual.

Summery
F13UFX is a power house and fully packed machine. It comes with a powerful processor, backlit keyboard, num pad and a very nice crisp display. For people who are more inclined towards power and working this machine is a wonderful choice. But people who are more interested in maneuverability and battery should look for other options.

Buying a Lap top is a high involvement decision. A lot many activities of life depend on a personal PC. Laptop plays a vital role in my work, entertainment, learning, and communication needs.

I made a search for a model meeting all the needs, and of course at the right price. Vaio “F” series seemed a good buy. It has reasonable price and good technical features. Though, I wish it were little lighter. But the 16.5 inch screen cannot come with a lighter model. However, it makes the battery life less which is compromised.
